Nicole Kidman interview

HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY AND DEVOTED MUM

NICOLE KIDMAN

SPEAKS FROM THE HEART ABOUT FAMILY, OVERCOMING FEARS AND HER SECRET FANTASY LIFE

Nicole Kidman interview

Nicole Kidman interview
Nicole Kidman's resolution this year is to get out of the house more. "It's really an issue for me," says Nicole Kidman, laughing. I'm actually quite introverted by nature, and given the choice on any given evening, I have a tendency to want lo stay at home with my family, get into my pyjamas and go to bed early. But this year
I'm trying to change that. I've decided to get out more, be more part of the world and live life to the fullest. If people ask me out to dinner or to a party, I'm going to push myself to say yes instead of no. And actually, I have been going out a little bit more lately, so the resolution does seem to be working - although I know it's only the beginning of the year so I still have plenty of time to fall down on it."

Nicole Kidman looks pretty good for a shut-in this sunny afternoon in Beverly Hills, striding into the room
on those impossibly long legs, wearing a tailored powder-pink trouser suit over a crisp white blouse, her hair falling in soft golden curls around her delicate features. Nicole Kidman's on a break from filming Grace of Monaco and it's easy to see why she was cast as Grace Kelly, the celebrated Hollywood movie star and fashion icon who won the heart of a prince.

But, a little surprisingly, Nicole Kidman admits that when she was growing up in Sydney, the very last thing she felt was anything approaching fashionable.

"I wasn't comfortable with the way I looked at all," she remembers. "I so desperately wanted to be that kind of blonde, beachy, Aussie girl-next-door, but I just wasn't. I was very tall and very fair-skinned and I had red hair and, to make matters worse, because of my skin my mum wouldn't let me go to the beach during the day, so when everyone else was out sunbathing, I had to slay at home. I didn't really feel I lined in al all. Luckily, I filled my time with reading and that's what led me to being an actress."

Fast forward 30 years and Nicole Kidman says she's found it fascinating playing Princess Grace. "There's an
enormous responsibility playing somebody who has existed in real life and I approached her as a real person rather than a movie star or a princess. "There's a tendency for us all, when we see people who are far off, to want to put them on a pedestal, but I also want people to know that she was a woman, too, and to see what she really fell, what hurt her, what gave her confidence - all the aspects of her.

Nicole Kidman interview

"I did a lot of research for this role and I have to say that the more I researched Grace, the more I came to love her because I found t hat she was a very good woman - a lovely person, really."

Much of the film has been shot in France and for Nicole, this was a golden opportunity to spend time in one of her favourite countries. "I first went there when I was 17. I went with my boyfriend, we stayed in a little attic room at the top of a B&B and I discovered red nine and baguettes and cheese. I've loved the place ever since - I'd love to buy a house there but my husband is like, 'Noooo!'.

"But I have been having fun working there. Because my little girls are not in school yet - Sunday's tour and Faith is only two — they've been able lo come with me and I was able to put Sunday into a little French school for a while, which was fun.

"I have a little room for them on the set with a bed for them to have a nap and everything. And because of
their ages, they're still very excited to be coming to the set and hanging out with mum. Probably in five or ten
years they'll be like, 'No way'."

The girls' father, Nicole's husband Keith Urban, has been flying in and out whenever his career as a country
music star permits. In the summer, the family will all be able to spend some time together when he takes them on his next tour. "We all go on the tour bus with him, which is a very- different experience," Nicole Kidman says. "It doesn't sound very relaxing but actually, it is quite relaxing for me because I'm not having to perform - that's his responsibility. So I can have some downtime and do some writing, which I've started to do. We're used to travelling around anyway. That's the beauty of being an actor and a musician - we get to be the gypsies of the world, going here and there."

SINGING THEIR OWN TUNE

Nicole Kidman says that both her daughters are already showing signs of inheriting their father's tiilent. "They both have music very strongly in their blood, which is a wonderful and amazing thing to me. I'm encouraging them as much as I can because I would love to have a little Urban Band one day.

"But really, they're their own little entities and as they grow up, they'll do what they want, which is just as it
should be. My own mother brought up my sister and me to believe we were to be our own people and not to conform to what anyone else expected and I think that's a nice way to bring up children. And if it means that they grow up a little wilful along the way - hey, I'd prefer that than having a very subseivient child anyway."

Nicole Kidman interview

Nicole Kidman is soon to be seen in Stoker, a chiller about a dysfunctional family that holds a dark secret. Her character in it, the emotionally unstable mother of a disturbed teenager, could hardly be more different from the elegant Grace Kelly, but Nicole says that variety in work is what she seeks out.

"And you can't just play sugar-coated characters because life isn't sugar-coated, you know? I actually like
characters that are unusual, complicated, flawed. I like to explore the dark side sometimes. I have a very
strong fantasy life - and my fantasies arc not always well-behaved any more than life itself is."

SCARLETT JOHANSSON in Hitchcock movie

SCARLETT JOHANSSON

SCARLETT JOHANSSON TELLS WHY SHE WAS DRAWN TO PLAY HITCHCOCK'S 'MAGNETIC MUSE

Hitchcock's movie
An exclusive shot of Scarlett as iconic actress Janet Leigh in Hitchcock.

It's difficult to meet your heroes but, forI Scarlett Johansson, playing iconic actress Janet Leigh in her new movie Hitchcock alongside movie greats Sir Anthony Hopkins and Dame Helen Mirren was one of ihe most satisfying challenges of her career.

And as can be seen in these photos from the film, in which Sir Anthony plays the famed director and Dame Helen his talented wife and collaborator Alma Rcvillc, the BAFTA-winning bombshell embodies the Psycho star perfectly.

"The thing that really drew me to the project was the prospect of working with Tony and Helen," says Scarlett Johansson, 28. "I've always really loved Janet Leigh. I've always found her to be a very magnetic actress, charming and spirited, and I thought it would be fun to find her essence. I didn't realise how difficult it would be."

SCARLETT JOHANSSON in Hitchcock movie

Hitchcock follows the tips and downs of Alfred and Alma's volatile relationship during the headline-grabbing production of his 1960 masterpiece, Psycho.

Scarlett Johansson's own personal life has also been known to make the odd headline. She was linked to actors Josh Hartnett and Benicio Del Toro prior to marrying Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds in 2008. The couple separated just two years later, with Scarlett Johansson going on to enjoy a short-lived romance with Sean Penn.

Scarlett Johansson is now dating French editor Rornain Dauriac, and recently the pair have been spotted
out and about in New York, where the actress is starring on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON in Hitchcock movie
Janet's daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, helped her prepare for the role, in which she re-enacts the famous shower scene from Psycho. "Jamie Lee snared some great stories," Scarlett Johansson says.

MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS

Scarlett Johansson became a Hitchcock fan at a young age thanks to her mother, producer Melanie Sloan,
who introduced her live children to his films. "We grew up on Hitchcock movies, and I saw Psycho when I was far too young. But that was true of every film with my mom. We watched The Silence of the Lambs when I was eight years old."

During her research, Scarlett Johansson - who returns as Black Widow in superhero movie Iron Man 3
later this year-struck up a friendship with Janet's daughter, actress Jamie Lee Curtis, once known as the Scream Queen for her roles in horror flicks such as Halloween.

"I was very fortunate to form a really lovely relationship with Jamie over email, and she shared some great stories and photographs," says Scarlett. "I figured it must be strange to have somebody play your mom, especially a mother like Janet was: incredibly involved in her children's lives, really put her career on hold for,
and was adored by, her daughters - they were very, very close.

"Jamie was absolutely wonderful, so warm and very open and encouraging. It was great to have her on my side for this."

Screen legend Sir Anthony, who spent hours in make-up putting on prosthetics to capture Hitchcock's familiar portly frame, was also firmly on Scarlett Johansson's side.

"Her face would just change and she'd become Janet Leigh," he says of the New Yorker. "Maybe it was a smile or something. Quite remarkable."

Scarlett Johansson is just as effusive iti her praise of her co-star. "It's absolutely intoxicating to watch him," she says. "He's such a fine actor. He's also a very lovely person.

"With somebody like Tony, he's so friendly light off the bat. He has such a soft-spoken, very casual attitude that any fear you have of the 'Great Andiony Hopkins' just melts away."

JASON STATHAM TELLS WHY HE BELIEVES IN FIDELITY AND FRIENDSHIP

JASON STATHAM THE HOLLYWOOD TOUGH GUY TELLS WHY HE BELIEVES IN FIDELITY AND FRIENDSHIP

Jason with Whiteley and with co-star J-Lo
Jason with Whiteley and with co-star J-Lo

Jason with Whiteley and with co-star J-Lo

It was a lough call for Jason Statham when the Hollywood hardman had to refuse the advances of co-star
Jennifer Lopez in n e w crime thriller Parker. "I asked myself. 'How can any man say no to Jennifer Lopez?'" Jason Statham says, laughing, when Hello!'s Inside-Entertainment catches up with the British-born star in Beverly Hills for a chat over tea.

"That was a tough one to work my head around," Jason says. "But the director Taylor Hackford said, 'I want the ladies to love this character as well as the men, and they will love him more if he is the man who respects his relationship and is loyal to his true love. I think that's true, and it's the way a man should behave. Because, let's face it, behind every successful man, there's a stronger woman who is responsible for almost every good thing that we do."

The strong woman behind 45-year-old Jason Statham is English-born Victoria's Secret model Rosie
Huntington-Whiteley, 25, his girlfriend of three years. And although Jason may joke about the attractions of Jennifer, in real life the singer and actress is a good friend of the couple. "I try to do the right thing in life and in relationships," Jason Statham says. "I think it's good to have a certain moral belief and, okay, sometimes I've fallen off the track, but it's there. I believe that if you have a good family they can leach yon right from wrong. I was lucky enough to have a good one, and what they taught me has stuck with me."

Two years ago, Jason and Rosie moved from the UK to Los Angeles. "I do miss England sometimes,"
Jason Statham says. "I mosdy miss my friends, the familiar faces I grew up with. I try to get them out here, but it's ten hours on a plane and they've got families, which makes it difficult... but it seems the type of action
movies that I make, nobody does it better than the US of A, so I'm very happy to be living here."

It was a British film that made his Hollywood career possible, after director Guy Ritchie cast the then unknown as a small-time crook in Lock, Slock and Two Smoking Barrels. "Guy was looking for someone to play a street hawker and at the time I sold perfume and jewellery on street corners for a living. I didn't have any experience in front of a camera but Guy said, 'I don't care, I'll get you to the place you need to be.' He took me to his house and showed me what to do, with a video camera, and that was die entire tuition I ever had as an actor. So whether you think I'm good or bad, don't blame me, it's all down to Guy Ritchie."

Parker is in UK cinemas from 8 March

Angelina Jolie pregnant!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are expecting baby No. 7!

ANGELINA JOLIE loves being a mom so much, she's taken on the rewarding role six times already. But it's been almost five years since she and fiance Brad Pitt have welcomed a new baby into their bountiful brood and sources say she's been dying to experience it all again.
"Angelina has been talking about having another child for years now," says a family insider, "but Brad Pitt kept putting his foot down because of their intense schedules and chaotic lifestyle." Well, the time must finally be right for the couple: Star magazine has learned that Angelina Jolie, 37, and Brad Pitt 49, are expecting baby No. 7!

Angelina Jolie pregnant

Angelina Jolie still had the baby bug following the birth of Knox and Vivienne, in July 2008. Just three months after the twins joined the elan   -which includes Maddox, 11, Pax, 9, Zahara. 8, and
Shiloh, 6 -  Angie was asked by Matt Lauer if she and Brad had "anything in mind" when it came to adopting again. The actress didn't hesitate when answering: "Yeah." she said with a smile.

But with all the film work the pair already had lined up, not to mention the demands of raising six children - and. as of April 2012, the added challenge of planning a wedding - - it took years
for Angelina Jolie to finally get serious about having another baby.
"She cleared her schedule, so her workload this year will be very minimal." the insider explains. "That's what ultimately persuaded Brad Pitt to give in and agree to another child." So, we can say that Angelina Jolie pregnant.

Of course, the Brad Pitt didn't put up too much of a fight once the stage was set. He admitted in a
recent interview that fatherhood has made him a better man, and he clearly thrives around his kids.
''I want to enjoy this year more than ever" he enthused. "I'm getting into other fields and spending
more time with my family."

With Brad Pitt on board the super skinny Angelina Jolie quit taking birth control and even tried to put on weight to help her body support a healthy pregnancy. And then, in December, they got the happy news they were waiting for! "They're so ecstatic to know that Angelina Jolie pregnant and have a new addition to the family," says the insider, who estimates that Angelina is about three months pregnant. "They're even saying they may leave Hollywood after the birth! They're ready to be done with their careers so they can focus on their family full time."

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN

Ever since Angelina Jolie found out she's pregnant, Angelina has been resting up and hiding out. "She had morning sickness and didn't want to draw attention to herself in public," the source reports. "She's focusing on the other children right now, trying to prepare them for the new baby."

Indeed it seems Angelina Jolie maternal instincts are kicking into high gear. Even though Angie hasn't learned the gender of the baby yet, "she's convinced she's having a boy," the source reports. "Brad is so excited he's already telling friends he's having another son!" And there's one more Jolie-Pitt who's thrilled at the prospect of a new little brother. "Shiloh has even determined that the baby's name must be John." says the insider.

As badly as Angelina has wanted a seventh child a source tells Star she was actually hoping to adopt at first. "She specifically wants a child from Africa, because it s important to her that all her
kids have a sibling that looks like them, who they can to relate to," the source Feliz, Calif, compound.

The expansion comes at a good time: With a ninth family member on the way, a new play room could be essential! explains. "Zahara is the only one who doesn't have a sibling that looks like her."
But Brad Pitt pushed to have a baby the old-fashioned way. while they still had the chance. "She is nearing 40," the insider notes, "but just because she's pregnant now doesn't mean they won't adopt again. Angie knows that she'll be able to talk Brad into adopting when the time is right."

Jannifer Lopez's favorite things

A-LIST OF Jannifer Lopez's favorite things

On the concert stage or the red carpet, Jennifer Lopez radiates glamour. “I love all things sparkly,”
she says, like the yellow Balmain minidress Jannifer Lopez wore for her Bazaar shoot, and “silver and gold nail polishes.” For a wardrobe bold enough to match her confidence, Jennifer turns to Christian Louboutin, Zuhair Murad, Rick Owens, Valentino, Chanel, and Tom Ford.

But Jannifer Lopez will forever be linked with Versace. “I’ll never forget the Versace moment,” she says of the deep-V palm-print dress she wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000. As for beauty, Jennifer prefers L’Oréal Paris products (“especially Voluminous False Fiber Lashes mascara”) and a naturally sexy look. (Her go-to lip? ChapStick.) On Jannifer Lopez's constant travels, she always finds time to shop. Milan’s 10 Corso Como is Jannifer Lopez favorite boutique, and she recently picked up Raquel Allegra sweaters in Hong Kong. But even on the road, Jannifer Lopez keeps her loved ones close: “I invested in a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk to stay organized and keep all of my
favorite clothes in one place.”

Anne Hathaway interview for BAZAAR

Anne Hathaway

'I'm not Rihanna; I'm not cool,' says Anne Hathaway, sitting in the lounge of Manhattan's Pierre Hotel. 'When people come up to me on the street, they often just want a hug, not a photo, and they want that because they like my work.' Anne Hathaway pauses. 'And...maybe they like some of the dresses I've worn on the red carpet.'

Anne Hathaway looses a boisterous rocket of laughter across the lounge that turns heads and lowers coffee cups: who is dressed all in black - pencil-thin trousers, camisole, a dainty silver necklace, silver nails, minimal make-up, her hair still growing out from the shoot of
Les Miserables - Anne Hathaway cuts an elfin, boyish figure, although any impression of frailly is soon dispelled by the gales of good humour she summons to pounce on anything that resembles ego or presumption in herself. Anne Hathaway's like a cross between a fawn and Bette Midler; or Audrey Hepburn if she'd been raised in a large, rowdy family of boys.

'At times I wish I could tamp down my passion and just stay a little calmer. I get carried away by things so easily, I get caught up in them; I give everything sometimes without thinking, when thought might be a welcome addition to the circumstances... Anne Hathaway gives a droll roll of her eyes. 'Sometimes it winds up biting me in the behind. But I don't know how to be any other way.'

Heaven knows New York could do with a laugh. On the day we meet, lower Manhattan is enduring its fifth day without power or water, after Hurricane Sandy ripped through town at the weekend. Large parts of Hoboken are still underwater. New Jersey's beach is halfway up the street. Evacuated from her apartment in Brooklyn, Hathaway is holed up at her parents' house Uptown with her husband, actor-turned-jeweller Adam Shulman, and arrives for lunch by scooter - one of those nippy little kick scooters you sometimes see kids whizzing about on.

"My husband and I bought them to get around town when we realised the transport system was down,' she says, taking self- conscious delight in the word 'husband'. The couple seized upon
a gap in Hathaway s schedule between press for The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables to marry in a private ceremony in California's BigSur in September, surrounded by redwood-trees, 'wild turkeys, deer and owls' and busted by only 'one helicopter'. Anne Hathaway brims with
bulletins from the front line of newly wed bliss.

'He walks into a room, and I light up, I can't help it,' Anne Hathaway says. During the London shoot of Les Mise'rables, for which she was required to trawl the pits of despair, she had to banish Shulman from her room, as he was making her too happy. 'A few days into it I said, "I'm having too much fun, I just want to play with you and I need to be really sad right now." Anne Hathaway creases her brow, comically, like a spaniel.

It takes a few minutes to acclimatize to Hathaway's beauty, which is almost ideographic, registering at 30 paces. Up close, her face is a Rolls-Royce of expression, those plush, outsized features telegraphing emotion instantaneously, every smile a kilowatt smile, the slightest furrow of those eyes registering sadness or sympathy, as surely as a clown's. 'The corners of her mouth, turned up voluptuously, seemed to encourage audacity; but her long, shadowy eyelashes were cast discreetly down towards the lower part of her face as if to check its festive tendencies. Anne Hathaway whole toilette was indescribably harmonious and enchanting. [She] was beautiful, without being too conscious of it. Anne Hathaway possessed two types of beauty - style and rhythm.' That is Victor Hugo, describing Famine, the tragic, tubercular heroine of his 1862 novel Les Mise'rahles, who descends into poverty, sickness and finally death while providing for her daughter. The novel was turned into a musical by Cameron Mackintosh in 1985, and has now been adapted into a film by The King's Speech director Tom Hooper, who cast Hathaway in the role of Famine after auditioning what he calls an 'outrageous list of most of the known universe of female movie stars. Annies performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" was what persuaded me to go with the sungthrough form, rather than using dialogue. Anne Hathaway'd found a language of doing it in close-up where you forgot that she was singing. She was extraordinary.'

Anne Hathaway grew up dreaming of a career on Broadway and has sung at Carnegie Hall.
Her mother, Kate, a stage actor, actually performed the role of Famine in understudy when Hathaway was a child. 'If I was to audition for the stage production of Les Mis I don't think I would have made it past the first round,' says Hathaway, who worked intensively with a singingcoach for six months so that she could deliver her 'belt voice' while keeping her face undistorted for close-ups. 'She arrived on set with binders of historical research into prostitution in 19th-century France,' marvels Hooper. 'She found out that it was actually run by the police.' It was
Hathaway, he says, who insisted on shearing her hair and a course of drastic weight loss for the role: an initial 10 pounds, then, after she had performed 'I Dreamed a Dream', another 15 in 14 days, raising alarm bells when pictures of her looking emaciated surfaced in the press, alongside details of her radish-and-houmus diet.

'If anything, I tried to persuade her against it,' says Hooper. 'But she was very clear she was doing it right and that, as an American, she knew a thousand times more about nutrition than 1 did. But I admired her for it. It was a total commitment. She didn't want to look like a well-nourished, well-groomed film star pretending to be this broken woman. I also felt the depth of this connection to the story of her mother. If I was to audition for the stage production of Les Mis I don't think I would have made it past the first round,' says Hathaway childhood was defined by these phone calls - "Annie, your mum's going to be on tonight in Washington" - and she would jump on a train, and see if she could make it to the performance. The first day on set, she wore her mother's cast jacket from the American tour. It dearly meant a lot to her. There was history there.'

Anne Hathaway was raised a Catholic in New Jersey, but the family left the church when Hathaway's older brother Michael came out as gay; he now works as her assistant. Her father is a lawyer, and her parents are still together after 38 years of marriage, despite some 'bumps and bruises' along the way. She says she had a typical 'pouty, obnoxious' adolescence - 'You have no idea why you're angry. You just are. They rised you? I ask Hathaway if she consulted her mother
about the role of Famine, and she nods. 'I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times in my life I have turned to someone and said, "Advise me," she says.'But my mum told me some stories about when she played the part which made me feel even more deeply how much this story was in my bones.'

She also asked what it was like to play the role as a mother, 'because I'm not a mum yet - touch wood'. She looks around for something to knock, raps the chair, peers closer to see if it is actually wood, and then knocks the side of her head to be on the safe side. Hathaway is a good egg - so funny at her own expense she's practically British, although occasionally you catch a glimpse of something a little more fierce breaking to the surface: the same shark fin of drive that brought
her from a childhood acquiring 'scraped knees from climbing trees, playing sports and challenging boys to tights' to landing her first TV role at the age of 16, and her first movie role, in The Princess Diaries, at 17. Having conquered the lipgloss-and-tiara crowd, Anne Hathaway then executed a 180-degree career turn in her mid-twenties to play a recovering addict in Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married, for which Anne Hathaway received her first Oscar nomination, and a cold rhinestone heiress in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. Sneak footage from this was shown to Meryl Streep before Hathaway was cast in The Devil Wears Prada, after seven other actors turned it down. The producers said, "Don't look at the princess stuff This is her latest work." Meryl looked at that scene and went, "OK. you can hire her."'

Such confidence was justified: Anne Hathaway revealed a winning mixture of vulnerability
and sass, a little tomboyish around the edges, but exquisite in an ivory angora coat; a princess in the rough, running in heels. Anne Hathaway credits her long-time manager, Susan Bymel, forgetting her in front of'people who really didn't want to see me. For a long time it was me and her against the world. I was seen as this bizarre-world good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with - very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible and not interesting. I had no grit, no sex appeal.'

Even Les Mis was a 'fight', she says, after concern that she might be too young to play Famine but too old, at 29, to play the teenage Cosette (that part went to Amanda Seyfried). 'I had one of my fierce mama-tiger actor moments, when I find myself speaking to my manager through gritted teeth, instructing her very precisely about What. To. Say. To. Them.' As for the weight loss, she admits: 'I tried to do it as healthily as possible, but I made myself quite sick. I assumed I'd have
a piece of chocolate cake and every thing would come back to normal, but it wasn't like that at all. The weight loss affected my hormones, so mentally I was all over the map. I kind of lost my mind a little bit.'

Let there be no doubt that some truly fierce rip tides surge beneath the careers of female movie stars. Merely to keep your footing, let alone to be as charming and funny and self-deprecating
as Anne Hathaway, requires the grace, balance and determination of a ballerina combined with the constitution of an ox. To be this ambitious and this nice requires real work. 'What I find is that I can push through anything.' she says. '1 have an enormous amount of drive. But on the inside I'm a bunch of pulpy wet leaves; I'm so defenseless, probably pathologically so.'

The issue of trust comes up a few times in our conversation; enough times for me to feel I can address the elephant in the room: Raffaello Follieri, the Italian businessman who swept her off her feet in 2004, boasting of links to the Vatican - almost custom-made to prey on good ex-Catholic girls - who was imprisoned for fraud in 2008, having secretly funnelled money from his charities
into maintaining a lavish lifestyle of $37,500-a-month penthouses, yachts, clothes and holidays for himself and Hathaway. After he was arrested, she did the only thing she knew how: she went on The Late Show with David Letterman and joked about it, telling the host: 'As far as relationships crashing and burning goes, c'mon, I did pretty great.'

Anne Hathaway was 'surprised' by the warmth of her treatment from both fans and the press.
'I thought it was going to be a bloodbath, to be honest. There's a great line in Gypsy, where at the very end her mother says, "You know what you are to them? A circus freak, this year's novelty act," and Louise says, "Nobody laughs at me. because I laugh first." I think it also has something to do with the reason I'm so self-deprecating. If I can beat them to it, they can't hurt me.'

Right in the middle of the Follieri bombsite - the FBI were allover her, taking back jewellery he had given her, asking to see journals - she met Shulman at the Palm Springs Film Festival. They had a friend in common, in whom Hathaway confided: I'm going to marry that man.' 'I think he thought I was a little nuts, which I am a bit, but I'm also nice.' I ask her whether she had any residual trust
issues - whether Shulman had to jump through a few more hoops than usual. There is a long pause.

'Um... I've never really talked about this.'she says quietly, looking down at her lap, knitting her fingers together. 'But I was just very honest with him. I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life. I also knew that I couldn't have met him at a worse time... I took my trust out for a ridiculous joyride with him. [I told him.] "I believe, because I need to believe, that what just happened to me was the exception and not the rule, and that people are good and you are a good person, because I feel it. And so I am not in a good place right now, but I'm going with this." And he has never hurt me."

Her voice is a whisper now. 'And I was right. It was scary. But as the days wore on it kept on getting better and better. I found that the love I found for him made me more trusting of everyone, and the more I started to see who I had become. I had lost track of mvself during those wars and I actually started to see who I had become and that's... that's when things got tricky and ugly.
Having to forgive myself.

Suddenly, I see that Anne Hathaway is crying, quietly, tears spilling silently down her cheek. Before I know what I am doing, I reach over and grab her hand. 'Its OK,' she says, her voice trembling. 'Feelings are good.' At which point the waitress arrives with a pot of green tea and
things get a little messy. Hathaway tries to pour the tea but it comes shooting out in along jet, which misses her cup by  a mile. 'Everything's spilling,' she says, and sends up one of those great hoots of laughter.

And then I'm laughing, and what slim shred of journalistic objectivity I have left is bidding its gentle adieux, floating off through the lobby to join the pigeons in Central Park. The tears of Anne
Hathaway are not something you bounce back from all that easily. I want to hug this beautiful, driven, mushy-hearted woman and tell her that she did the right thing; the only way to respond to those who take your trust for a ride is to open your heart still wider, but keep your eyes peeled. But instead I mumble something block-headed and male about it being like Reagan and the Soviets: trust but verify.

'Funnily enough, I was reading something that Emma Stone said,' says Hathaway, wiping away her tears. 'She's so ludicrously young; she's, like, five. I'm very impressed with her. And she said she's
witnessed people becoming so hardened by this industry and she really didn't want that. She articulated a feeling that I've had for a while.

You know, I need to keep my heart beating and alive and responsive for my job, otherwise I'm going to become a sell-out and a hack and I don't want that. I need to be achingly alive. And yes,
there are certain moments where weird shit happens and it hurts so bad you can't even imagine, and all you can do is just keep breathing through it and know that the next time something like that happens, you'll be better prepared.'

Anne Hathaway turns 30 in a week and, despite the career frets this brings - 'it doesn't help that that new crop of girls is so gorgeous, and so 22 years old' - she's 'excited about it. I figured out a lot of things that work for me; I have the love thing figured out' She's looking forward to returning to her evacuated home, and continuing a fight with a rising tide of wedding presents. 'A nightmare,' she says. 'My mother was like, "You're really going to want this..." but I'm not big on stuff
in general. Once it's gone, let it go.'

Her next major job is Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller Robopocalypse, but before that come the Oscars, for which she is entered in two campaigns, one for her supporting role in I.o Miseruhles, and another for her role as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. 'She's having a storming year,' says Hooper, 'first working with Chris Nolan in Batman, now with her work in Les Mis. What a one-two punch.'

When I remind her of one of my favorite quotes of hers, to the effect of Oscar buzz being a little 'like when you find out that a boy you like has a crush on you back, but he hasn't asked you out yet', Anne Hathaway says: 'It's still true. And the thing is, having gone through it as a nominee and as a host...' She makes a disgusted face. 'You didn't enjoy hosting last year?' I ask. 'As I said, I'm a determined person. And I was determined to have a good time.' 'It was contagious,' I volunteer.

'Some people would have called it a contagion,' she counters. 'I have fond memories and no desire to do it again.' She pauses, regains her thread. This time, it's like that boy did have a crush on me, and I went away and I saw the world and got a haircut; and now I'm going to see him again and I don't know how he's going to feel about me.' □

Les Miserablesis out on 11 January.

Tamara Ecclestone

OPENING THE DOORS TO HER LAVISH NEW HOME IN L.A. TAMARA ECCLESTONE
TELLS HOW SHE'S PUT RECENT HEARTACHE BEHIND HER AND HOPES TO MAKE 2013 'THE BEST YEAR EVER'

Relaxing in a bathrobe with her beloved chihuahua Duke on her lap, Tamara Ecclestone is showing few signs of the jetlag that caused her to wake before dawn. "I'm just so happy to be here," the 28-year-old Tamara Ecclestone says of her new home, a palatial nine-bedroom, 12-bathroom estate in the exclusive Bel Air enclave of Los Angeles.

The Tamara Ecclestone house boasts more than 19,000sq fi of living space and includes a bar, games room, gym and private cinema, as well as expansive gardens and commanding views over the celebrity haunt that is the Bel-Air Country Club.

It's clear that the Formula 1 heiress already feels at home. "The sun is shining, my sister is close
by... I just feel as though 2013 is going to be the best year ever," Tamara Ecclestone says, stepping over a pair of diamante-encrusted designer shoes that will soon be housed in one of the mansion's many pieces de Tamara Ecclestone house resistance: the walk-in wardrobes that will accommodate Tamara's extensive collection of clothes once it's been brought over from the UK.

As Tamara Ecclestone house shows HELLO! around her stunning new abode, Tamara seems the picture of contentment. Tamara Ecclestone has certainly come a long way since her dramatic July break-up with businessman Omar Khyami — they split after she learned he had been unfaithful.

"That was one of the most difficult things I've ever been through," Tamara Ecclestone reflects. "But everything happens for a reason, even if you can't see it when you're dealing with the heartbreak."

Now happily single, Tamara Ecclestone is focused on her budding career as an entrepreneur and is also looking forward to being handed the keys to her spectacular new £45million West London home, which has undergone a two-year, £18 million refurbishment.

She is also "beyond excited" about becoming an auntie when her 24-year-old sister Petra Ecclestone gives birth to her first child later this year.

In an exclusive interview, Tamara Ecclestone reveals all about her move to LA, her property plans back home, her TV ambitions, getting back in the dating scene and why she's on the lookout for a mummy's bow..

Tamara, this house is beautiful. What made you decide to get a place in Los Angeles?
"I've loved spending time here over the past few months - being with my sister and enjoying the lilestyle. And now, with my haircare products launching in the US, I have a real reason to be here.''

Your sister Petra is expecting her first baby, was that an added incentive to move?
"Petra hasn't publicly spoken about her pregnancy, so I don't want to be the one to say the wrong thing. We are so close, though, and it's such a special time - I know I'll never be able to get this time back. I can't wait to be an auntie and I'll be around for her as much as I can."

Can you see LA becoming your permanent base, as it is for Petra?
"London is home to me. I love spending time here and there's a purpose to it now, but London will
remain my base. I will dip in and out of New York for meetings when I need to, but split my time between Britain and LA. It's funny because I have no ties to London in terms of a relationship now, so it's nice to kind of be able to do what I want, when I want. I've never really had that before, soil feels very liberating."

Why don't you just stay in a hotel when you're travelling so much?
"I'm a Cancerian and I'm very homely - I need to have my things around me. When I'm spending a
long time somewhere, I want to bring my dogs and to have people over when I want - it's much easier to do that in a house than a hotel. I also think it's harder to get a sense of living in a different city if you're just holed up in a hotel room."

You must have had your pick of houses. What drew you to this Tamara Ecclestone house?
"I'd looked at lots of homes, but when I walked in here the energy felt really good and I loved it
immediately, before I'd even walked down the corridor. It's kind of like when you meet a person and you feel an instant connection."

Which room do you like most?
"I love my bedroom - it leads out into the garden and the light is just perfect To wake up and to actually see sun is quite something. Even if it's cold, I don't care... the sky is still blue in LA and you can't help but be in a good mood."

The dressing room is quite something in Tamara Ecclestone house...
"Yes, it's conveniently large. I also love the kitchen and the fact it has an adjoining dining room. When I was growing up, mum would always be cooking while Petra and I would eat near her - it was really cosy. I'm not much of a cook Inn this kitchen is tempting me to improve my skills."

You and Petra are very close to your mum. Will she be spending more time in LA now?
"Yes. definitely. If Petra and I are not in London, Mum won't be there either. She flew to LA a few months ago and we all had really nice girlie times together."

You've decided to rent this property before you commit to buying. Why is that?
"I haven't spent long enough in LA to get to know the neighborhoods and they're all so different:
Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu... I wanted to lease somewhere with an option to buy if I love it. If
I don't love it, I'll find another home over here."

It was reported that you were looking at the Fleur De Lys mansion in Bel Air, the second most expensive property in the States, after Petra's $85 million[£53m] Holmby Hills home...
"I never even looked at that house. I was sent details for so many homes, including that one, but I never actually went to see it.

"It's not really my style - too old fashioned. I think I would feel as though 1 was 96 years old if I lived there."

There are rumours that you're filming a reality show about your move to the States...
"It's something that hasn't been confirmed one way or another. It's such a big step, such a big
decision. I want to be 100 per cent sure before I do it, so it's an ongoing conversation."

You weren't entirely happy with your last show, Billion $$ Girl...
"It wasn't a disaster, but I think if I do something else like that, I'd want more input. Also, I'm in a
different place in my life right now, so the show would have to reflect that"

The last time we spoke you were getting ready to move into your London property...
"It's still not finished, but it will be imminently. Tilings are always delayed on building projects. I'm
very excited about it though: it's a new beginning. It's like January marks a whole new start for me,
so it will be nice to move out of the old home. I've lived there for six years, so will begin afresh
somewhere else."

The renovations have certainly been extensive...
"They have. We dug down two levels and everything is completely brand new. I've been very involved with it because it was such a big project. My current Tamara Ecclestone house was ready to move into, so this is the first time I've been completely hands on and been able to say, 'Oh no, I don't want that there.'"

Was it difficult to have a vision for such a huge project of Tamara Ecclestone house?
"I'm quite decisive and I definitely knew what I wanted. A lot of people think the decor is quite masculine, as it's dark, but I quite like the feel of it. I think that dark colors are warmer and
more homely."

It is a very large property - more than 55,000 sq ft of Tamara Ecclestone house...
"Yes and I'm most excited about the fact that there is so much entertaining space. I love to be
social and to have people over for dinner and drinks and not have to go out."

Neutral tones prevail in the master bedroom, which feels all the brighter thanks to the wall of French windows. "I love my bedroom," says Tamara Ecclestone. "It leads out into the garden
and the light is just perfect."

There have been reports of some quite extravagant elements, such as the £1 million crystal bath in Tamara Ecclestone house...
"I think that a lot of what has been said about the house is untrue. It's definitely a big house and it's
hopefully somewhere I'll have forever. I wanted it to be my dream home and I would definitely like it to be my family home when I settle down and have kids. That's kind of the thought behind it.

"The best feature for me would probably be my bedroom - have you noticed that I really love
bedrooms? I like my dressing area, too. It's a whole 'Hers' section, which is very nice. I've got a salon station to do my hair and make-up - it's really nice to have all of that.

"The thing I'm most excited about, though, is moving into a new house that I can make new memories in and close the door on the past."

The last time we spoke you were going through a painful and public break-up with Omar. Have you spoken to him since then?
"No. That's a chapter in my life that's well and truly closed. It was definitely one of the hardest experiences I've ever been through, but I'm very glad that I've finally put it behind me."

How do you feel about the situation and being single now?
"I've never felt better. Everything happens for a reason and it's really hard to see that when you're going through something so painful. Everyone's telling you, but you can't see a possible reason why this should happen to you. Now I feel like the best is yet to come. It's corny, I know, but I really believe that."

Have you started dating again?
"No. This is the longest period of my life that I've been single. I always thought I didn't want to be by myself and I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I'm the happiest I've ever been.
"It's really nice to be able to be comfortable with your own company and I've been spending much more time with friends and family than I usually would as part of a couple. I've been able to really focus on work and I feel like I've really been living life to the fullest.
"It's very nice to be single for a while. I've always been in long-term relationships so I guess I'm doing the young, free and single bit now."

There must be no shortage of Tamara Ecclestone suitors...
"[Laughs] For a while I didn't feel ready, but now I do and I'm open to it, but I haven't met anyone I want to date. I'm not really looking, so if it happens, it happens."

Is it good to take time to reflect after a painful break-up?

"I think you can rush into a rebound relationship and it becomes ugly and complicated because you haven't truly had closure.
"I think that I've actually dealt with the break-up and been able to move on properly by myself, which is much healthier."

Have you adjusted your expectations of men in the light of what you went through with Omar?
"Without trust, you have nothing: trust is so important to me. I also need someone who can make me laugh - if you can't laugh together, what are you going to do in 30 years or however long it takes for the romance to fade?
"After what happened with Omar, more than ever I need someone with ambition and motivation, who has a drive to get up in the morning. He'd have to be funny and fun, someone I can just be with and do simple things with. Oh, and he has to love his mum. That's key: if he can't love his mother, how can he love anyone else?"

Is there anyone high profile who you'd consider dating?
"Hmm, that's a hard one to answer. I've never really gone on looks and I have to get to know someone before I can decide whether I like them. It's hard to tell just by looking at a photo."

Has seeing Petra pregnant made you broody?
"No. Petra Ecclestone is the happiest she's ever been. She and her husband James are so good together; they give me hope that that's out there for me. But at the same time it's not what I'm ready for in my life tight now."

You said that, post-split, you have a healthier body image...
"Yes, it sounds crazy, but it's because I'm happier now; whether I weigh 2lb more or 21b less isn't so important to me. I think sometimes when you're unhappy, you obsess more over things like your weight: I know that when I'm particularly skinny, I'm not at my happiest. I'm going to the gym now' and I'm actually enjoying it — who knew that was possible?
"I'm also eating healthily, but if one here, so I'm getting sucked into it, too. Nobody here really drinks a lot, either - they'll offer you a wheat grass shot instead of a vodka one."

How did you spend New Year's Eve?
"Petra Ecclestone was in London and we went to Annabel's [private members' club] and had dinner with Mum and some friends and family.
"New Year's Eve is always a bit of a disappointment, so being around people I love and care about made it enjoyable. I think New Year's should be spent how you mean to go on and being around my family is very important to me."

That's a pretty subdued way to welcome 2013...
"It was, but some friends and I flew to Las Vegas a few days afterwards and definitely made up for it."

You say your new Tamara Ecclestone hair care line will be available soon...
"We had the press launch in New York a few weeks ago and it went really, really well. The range will be launching in high-end stores in the UK and USA simultaneously in the very near future. I've worked so hard on this collection and I really hope it's a success. If that does well, then I could potentially expand into beauty and skincare. This is the first product that I'm putting out, so it
has to be right and it has to he representative of me, Tamara Ecclestone.
"I've been impatient, as it's taken so long to get everything to this point, but I feel like it's finally all coming together. It's very exciting."

Any other projects in the pipeline?
"There's my ongoing relationship with Great Ormond Street Hospital. I also have a website, tamaragivesback.com, where I auction off some of my clothes for charity, and that's going
really well."

Did you make a New Year's resolution?
"I guess my resolutions are really to live life to the max and to have no regrets.
"I want 2013 to be the best year ever. I want to spend lots of time with my family and friends and I want my new business to do really well, too. This is the year of focus."

Katherine Heigl interview

-->

Katnerine Heigl

Gorgeous Greys Anatomy star Katnerine Heigl is one of the most uncensored actresses we've ever
interviewed. Want proof? Keep reading as she dishes on love, sex, her booming career, and more.
By ShawnaMalcom

Katherine Heigl arrives for lunch at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont hotel bubbling with excitement. "I just worked out," she says, as if it were a major accomplishment. Which, evidently, it is—she's blown off sessions with her trainer the past four days in a row. "I don't have a lot of discipline," the 29-year-old actress admits. "If I wasn't in this industry, I wouldn't work out. But I have hips and a butt and everything that goes along with that, including cellulite! So I do the best I can."

A confession like (hat isn't what you'd expect to hear from one of Hollywood's hottest actresses, but it's precisely the kind of no-ho Ids-barred statement Katherine Heigl (or Katie, as friends call her) is prone to make... and one of the many reasons she's Cosmo's Fun Fearless Femaleof the Year. "People who know me well know that I have an opinion about pretty much everything" Katherine Heigl says.

Being outspoken seems to become Katherine, who's on a roll both professionally and personally. There's her recent Emmy win for her portrayal of sensitive doc Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy and the hilarious and daring performance Katherine Heigl, um, delivered in last summer's blockbuster flick Knocked Up. Then there's the striking make under Katherine Heigl pulled off for her latest film, January's charming romantic comedy 27 Dresses. She cut off several inches of her glamorous blond hair and ed it mousy brown to play plain Jane, a woman who's always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

In 27 Dresses, Katherine Heigl flaunts some scary frocks. Not that Katherine would know whatthat's life: As Cosmo went to press, she was about to walk down the aisle with rocker Josh Kelley.Everything in Katherine's life appears to be lining up perfectly She has not only achieved the success she's dreamed about since she started acting at age 9, but she's done it on her own terms. "I pride myself on being kind," she says. "But that's not to say there aren't moments when I'm a diva. Everybody has bad moments." Still, she says, "there are people in my life who keep me grounded, so I couldn't behave that badly, even if I wanted to."

But she's not afraid to call other people out on their bad behavior. Last year, after costar Isaiah Washington allegedly used an offensive word (faggot) to refer to T.B. Knight, who plays George on Greys, Katherine Heigl spoke up against Isaiah at the Golden Globes. Her fierce defense of T.B. made headlines. "You can't, give me too much credit for being brave," she says now. "I was just a girl who had had a couple of drinks and was angry and got mouthy."

Though Katherine Heigl doesn't regret voicing her opinion, she concedes that it was risky. "I really did think it would fuck me," she says. "As I was opening my mouth, I kept thinking. Shut up. But it's an issue that I felt really passionately about."

No wonder she calls winning the Emmy in September "a good end to a long year" Of course, the ultimate end to 2007 is the wedding she's been planning. It's an event she describes as a "swanky Christmas party" says Katherine, "It's an important day to celebrate your commitment."Katherine fell hard and fast for Josh in 2005, when she starred in one of his music videos. "Josh came into my life, and I realized. Oh my God, you're someone I can really trust and go to when things are hard," she says. "To have that in a partner is huge."Amazing sexual chemistry doesn'thurt either. "It's always been pretty phenomenal, but I think our sex life is 10 times better than it was," Katherine Heigl gushes. "We understand each other better It's just a whole different ballgame. You feel sheltered in the moment, whether you're being wild and crazy and you're doing your striptease... or it's just more mellow."

Her fans will be happy to hear that Katherine Heigl believes wifedom and a full-throttle career can go hand in hand. In addition to her role on Grey's, she's now the face of Nautica's fragrance My Voyage. "All these doors are opening," she says, adding that she's trying to savor the opportunities.

"My mother says she thinks I wouldn't have appreciated [success] the same way if it had come faster or more easily. Now it's a much bigger reward," says Katherine Heigl.
