Kanye West Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

izandrew kanye vest 2012 spring summer collectio

Kanye West said he found taking a bow at the end of his first fashion show in front of a few hundred industry professionals much more daunting than encoring in front of thousands, as he usually does. No surprise there. West's genius as a groundbreaking musician is unquestionable, whereas his status in the fashion world has been, until now, that of an ardent-bordering-on-obsessive fan. Which was clear from his genuine delight when Silvia Venturini Fendi and her daughter Delfina Delettrez Fendi came backstage to congratulate him after the show.

They were two of a surprising number of designers who turned out for Kanye: The presence of Azzedine Alaïa, Dean and Dan Caten, Olivier Theyskens, Jeremy Scott, and the Olsens sealed this evening's deal as a fashion event. Equally, they underscored the goodwill he had going into this. And Kanye himself was poignantly aware of the challenge. "The biggest hurdle I had to face is the celebrity designer or the hip-hop designer concept," he said backstage. But he had some major help in battling preconceptions. Among the people he bounced ideas off, he name-checked Kim Jones, Louise Goldin, Katie Eary, and Louise Wilson, the guiding light of Central Saint Martins and, by extension, guru of British fashion.

Maybe that's why what Kanye actually offered on the catwalk was such a surprise. He was keen to communicate that, as far as he was concerned, there was a couture level of workmanship in items that had taken three days to complete in the atelier he'd established in London. What we actually saw was something that looked like a baby Balmain vision of womenswear. The context was impeccable—soundtrack and staging exactly what you'd expect from someone whose 360-degree vision has been responsible for some of the best albums and concerts of the past decade. The clothes? Heavy might be the operative word: zippers in excelsis; suede and leather high-performance clothing; beading, crystals, and appliqué weighting jackets and tops. And more fur than you'd want on a night when the mercury hit the roof in Paris. It's kind of a cheap shot to go the trying-too-hard route with someone who is so undoubtedly passionate about what he is doing, but at the same time, it's frustrating that someone who seems to almost effortlessly realize his vaulting musical ambitions comes up short elsewhere, at least on the first attempt. Of course, what Kanye West is trying to achieve is unprecedented. There isn't a fashion designer alive who could match his music. But tonight's show suggests that conquering his new medium is a work in progress.

Here’s what the critics had to say about it over Twitter. Warning, it’s not pretty.
@CathyHorynNYT: Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit. Models swimming in some looks. Kills the hot look, no?
@JessicaMichault: The Kanye West show, in my humble opinion, is proof that everyone can love fashion but not everyone can be a fashion designer.

I think that every one of the designers sitting in the front row at Kanye West must have had a deja vue moment at some point during the show

Kanye West in Custom Balmain Jacket and Givenchy Plaid Tartan Shirt

Kanye West made a guest appearance during Rihanna’s Loud tour stop in NY last week to perform his hit single “All of the Lights”. He was seen wearing his custom black Balmain biker leather jacket with his nickname “YEEZY” embroidered on the back, Balmain denim jeans, a Givenchy Spring/Summer 2010 studded plaid tartan shirt wrapped around his waist, and a pair of Lanvin high-top sneakers.

According to Uk publication The Telegraph, the fashion-conscious rapper is getting ready to show his first full men’s and women’s ranges this fall.
Kanye West is currently working on the high-end creations, based out of a studio in central Paris, the paper quotes a source.
Just last year, he had told Elle: “Did you not see the Lindsay [Lohan] and Ungaro collection? That was 9/11 for celebrities doing fashion. After that I thought: ‘Well I can’t do a line now’.”

Star Style - Kanye West

In typical Kanye West fashion, he was spotted leaving his hotel in NYC making a very stylish and grand statement. He wore a full length fur coat, leather pants, and a pair of Nike Air Jordan Retro 3 sneakers. I’m not sure if this is the same fur coat, but he wore one very similar around this same time last year for Paris fashion week. Kanye can also be seen carrying a snake print and leather paneled backpack. Do you like his look?

Star Style - Kanye West

Kanye West was spotted out and about walking the streets of New York City yesterday. He looked quite sharp in a well tailored grey two-button suit, tie, and what appeared to be a pair of velvet slippers, which I would assume to be by Tom Ford and if so they’ll run you about ($1,500). I like the look, but one thing stood out to me as a little off, and it’s that his shirt cuff seems to stick out to far from the sleeves of his jacket. I was taught that the sleeves of the  jacket should stop at the wrist-bone, and with the arm at rest, the shirt sleeve should extend no more than one-half inch below the sleeves of your jacket. Is this a rule you follow, or are you just like  Mr. West, where you make your own?

Style Icon - Kanye West

He may have started his career as another r'n'b artist, but he doesn't just stop there. We've spotted an evolution not only in music or personal life, but in fashion too. No no, it's not another drama queen or a Hollywood's party animal. This time it's about the stylish and hottie Kanye West. No better example for a male modern fashion icon than him.

Over the years we've spotted so many fashion icons that come and go, but in the male row we kept those who are classy, sexy and elegant. Well, here's an exception. Kanye West brings out a new image for today's masculine figure by combining his own trends that go from all black tuxedo to hip hop style to geek-chic or vintage gentleman, all into a new and modern appeal.

If through the years the r'n'b and hip hop area didn't rise so much in the fashion world as rockstars or indie band boys did, now this side of the music seems to get more and more attention from the designers and press too. But not only Kanye West has made a major development in his style, other hip hop artists like Jay-Z, T.I., Kid Cudi or Pharell Williams had improved their appearances.

Kanye West has changed different styles in time and has also released new trends in men's fashion. At first he went for baggy hip hop style, then he changed it for futuristic techno influences, after that for geek-chic style but in all this time he kept a classical appearance that every man needs to show. For any important event, every man stands out in a tuxedo and with the right accessories you may as well be a style icon too.
